PRO Report: 1st Jan 2008
The Annual Donough Coughlan 5 Mile Road Race was hosted by Bandon Athletic Club
on Sunday 30th December. The race was won with a six second margin by Wieslaw
Sosnowski from Eagle Athletic Club in a time of 26.02.. Bandon resident Louise
Cavanagh from UCC Athletic Club won the women’s race. Jerry Forde from Blarney
Inniscarra AC was the only wheelchair participant. There were almost 140 runners
in the race this year and conditions were almost perfect on the day.
The race started on the Bypass in Bandon, and after doing one circuit of the
town, runners headed out the country via the KIlbrittain Road before finishing
at the Mart. A large local contingent took part in the race and runners came
from all over Cork, Munster and Dublin to participate. London, Luxembourg and
Holland were also represented. Oliver Hammerling from the Rollstuhl Sportclub of
Hamburg in Germany, who was visiting the area, made his trip memorable by
finishing third. Eagle AC won the team prize in the men’s race and St Finbarr’s
AC won the women’s team prize. In all there were 64 prize winners in the various
age and team categories.
The Club would
like to acknowledge the generous sponsorship of the prizes for the road race
provided by Carbery Milk Products, Bandon Co-op and Bandon Tyres
Bandon AC athletes who participated included Kevin Wilmot who finished fifth,
Paddy Murphy, Tom Sheehan, Tim Lucey, Liz Barry, Shiela Muckian, Bernard
O’Sullivan, John O’Brien and Mark O’Sullivan. Full results of the race and a

Training resumes at the Grammar School on Monday 7thth January. The Indoor
Season kicks off with the Munster Masters and the Juvenile Pentathlon
Competitions in Nenagh on January 6th followed by Juvenile Indoor Competitions
in Glasgow in February.
PRO Report: 18th Dec 2007
The AAI All Ireland Novice and Uneven Age Cross Country
Championships took place on December 16th in Dungarvan. A number of Bandon
athletes competed at the event. Sinead Everard and Grainne Lucey performed well
considering they were running out of their age group. They were part of the Cork
Team which was fourth. Aishling Everard represented Bandon in the Under 13 race.
Mark O’Sullivan and Ciaran Everard also competed, Mark narrowly missing out a
place as part of the Cork Team. The only event remaining in the Cross Country
season is the All Ireland B competition which takes place in Ballybofey in Co
Donegal in February.
The Club held a very successful fundraising bag pack at Supervalu, Bandon on
Saturday 14th December. There will be a seasonal break from training for two
weeks over the Christmas and New Year period. Training will resume on Monday
January 7th at the Grammar School.
The Annual Donough Coughlan Memorial 5 Mile Road Race takes place on Sunday 30th
December over the same course as last year starting at 2pm. Registration takes
place beforehand at the GAA Hall. There will be a large number of prizes in a
variety of categories and refreshments will be available afterwards for all
participants. The road race marks the end of another very successful year for
Bandon Athletic Club.

Munster B
Juvenile Uneven and Munster Masters Cross Country Championships Sunday 2nd
December 2007
Athletes from all over Munster travelled to Kerry for the Munster B Juvenile
uneven age and Munster Masters Cross Country Championships. The event was held
at Tralee Racecourse under the shade of the Slieve Mish Mountains
Bandon athletes were well represented and had a number of notable successes.
Fiona Everard came 15th in the Girls U11s and won a gold medal as part of the
Cork Team. The Bandon team including Lisa Lovell, Mari Dineen and Roisin Coveney
was fourth.
Brian Everard was an individual medal winner, coming tenth and won a silver
medal as part of the Cork Team. David Laffan and Dylan Scannell also finished
strongly as part of the Bandon Team. Seána Coveney finished 13th just one place
short of an individual medal. Helena Murphy finished well in 15th place and both
won silver as part of the Cork Team. Mary Teresa Murphy also competed well
coming in 21st. Robert O’Sullivan won an individual medal for eighth place in
the Boys U13 race and a silver medal on the Cork Team. Edward Ahern also
featured throughout the race, coming in 23rd. In the Girls U15 race Liz Prout
finished strongly in 11th place winning both an individual medal and a gold
medal as part of the Cork A team. Phil Healy, Aine Weldon and Chloe O’Leary also
competed and were part of the Cork B Team. Ciarán Everard ran a great race to
finish 7th in the Boys U15's and received a gold medal as part of the Cork Team.
All of the athletes who competed are deserving of praise given the conditions
which prevailed on the day. The extreme weather including very high winds,
blustery showers and the also the resulting soft ground meant that the athletes
were not only competing against one another but against the elements as well.
Well done to everybody and also to their Coaches.
Carmel Crowley showed excellent form finishing 3rd in the Masters Category.
Siobhan Dineen and Kate Coveney completed the Masters Women’s Team both
finishing well. Tom Laffan was the only competitor from Bandon in the Masters
Men’s race.
The next event on the calendar is the Juvenile All Ireland A Championships which
will be held in Dungarvan on December 16th. The Club would like to send its best
wishes to one its members Sipke O’Shaughnessy, who, representing the Hamilton
High School, will be competing next weekend in the Schools International
Combined Events at Kelvin Hall in Scotland.

The AGM of Bandon Athletic Club was held on Friday 23rd November in the Munster
Arms Hotel, Bandon.
The following Officers were elected for 2007/2008 – Finbarr Harrington -
Chairman, Billy Good – Hon President, Tom Laffan – Secretary, Carmel Lucey –
Treasurer, Kate Coveney – PRO.
The Club had two members running at the All Ireland Inter County Cross Country
Championships at the Curragh Camp in Kildare on Sunday 25th November. Carmel
Crowley came 25th in the Senior Women’s race amid a large and very competitive
field. The race was won by Fionnuala Britton who will lead the Irish Senior
Women’s team at the European Cross Country Championships in Spain on December
9th. Aisling Everard came 28th in the Girls under 12 race representing both Cork
and Munster. Well done to both athletes given the extremely high standards at
All Ireland level.
On Sunday next, the Munster B uneven ages and the Munster Masters Cross Country
Championships will take place at Tralee Racecourse at 12 Noon.

A.G.M. The club held its Annual General Meeting on Fri 24th Nov in the Munster Arms Hotel and there was a large number in attendance. Chairman John O'Donovan and PRO Catriona McSweeney stepped down and didn't seek re-election. Finbarr Harrington was elected to the position of Chairman and Kate Coveney was elected as PRO and she will be assisted by Sharon Toner (Juvenile section), Geraldine O'Donovan (Juniors), Collette Tuthil (Masters). (New Committee). With the change of PRO, there will also be some changes to the website in the future.
Kevin Wilmot won the Men Novice 'B' Cross County in Kinsale on the 18th Nov with Paddy Murphy 3rd, the team which also include Tom Sheehan and Sean Murphy won gold in the inter club competition. Medal winners in the Juvenile 'B' Cross County on the same day included Barry O'Driscoll, Kevin Nyhan and Phil Healy. (Full Results)
In the uneven age Munster Juvenile Cross County Championships in Carrignavar on the 11th Nov the only individual medal on the day was won by Ronan Duggan who finished in an excellent 10th place in the boys u19 race. Aisling Everard, Sinead Caulfield, Mark O'Sullivan, Sipke O'Shaughnessy and Ronan Duggan all won medals as part of Cork teams. In the Men's Intermediate race on the same day, Tom Laffan finished in 15th place and was a scoring member of the Cork. (Full Results)
Carmel McCarthy had a very impressive victory in the Cork County Senior Cross Country on the 3rd Nov in Carriagnavar, she led from the start and powered home for a fantastic victory.
Some impressive performances in the Munster Juvenile Cross County Championships. Individual medals for Grainne Lucey, Matthew Draper and Aisling Everard. All three of them also helped Cork to prizes in the Inter County competition. (Full Results)

West Cork Secondary Schools Cross Country. Dunmanway 19th
Sept.
A number of club members competed for their schools with some individual medal
winners and some amongst medal winning teams.
West Cork Cross Country Championships, Dunmanway 16th Sept. A smaller that usual number of Bandon athletes competed in the West Cork XC Championships but there was some great performances nevertheless. Anghorad O Shaughnessy, Aisling Everard, Ciaran Everard, Mark O'Sullivan, Grainne Lucey, Fiona Everard, Kevin Nyhan, Ailis Crowley, Michael Laffan, Thomas McCarthy, Aine Weldon were all amongst the individual medal winners with a number of teams also among the medals. Clonakility Credit Union Beach Run, a number of club members took part in the action on Inchydoney beach on the 2nd Sept and with a game of soccer and a swim taking place after the races there was certainly great entertainment which was enjoyed by all who attended.
Community Games. Representing the Enniskeane area there was success for 2 club members in the National Finals of the Community Games. Sinead Caulfield won Gold in the U10 200m and Joan Healy won Gold in the U16 100m. Well done girls.
All-Ireland Masters' Tullamore. 5 Gold medals for Liz Coomey, 2 Gold and 1 Bronze for Collete Tuthil and 1 Bronze for Geraldine Lovell.
11th/12th Aug, Sheffield, in the prestigious 'AAA' Track & Field Championships there was some impressive results for two members of Bandon A.C. In the U15 age group Joan Healy won Silver in the 100m and also placed 4th in the 200m. In the U17 age group Timmy Harrington won Bronze in the Long Jump. Well done to both on these excellent results.
11th Aug, Tullamore, in the final of the ESB National League the Bandon ladies team finished in 3rd place overall in final after some good performances in particular from Carmel Crowley who won the 3,000m, Collete Tuthil who won the Walk and Rachel Roche who won the Javelin.

6th Aug, Tullamore in the All-Ireland 'B' T&F Championships, Phil Healy was 3rd in the Long Jump
In the second weekend of the All-Ireland Juvenile Track & Field Championships medals were in short supply with just 1 Gold and 1 Silver in the individual events. In the relays the Boys U14 were the only team amongst the medals as they won Gold. Joan Healy won Gold in the 200m and Tracey Bradfield won Silver in the Shot Putt (Full Results)
In the National League the Bandon ladies team qualified for the final after some good performances over the first 2 days.
Schools International. As a result of their performances this year Joan Healy and Timmy Harrington have been selected to compete for the Irish Schools team in the upcoming Schools International. Joan will compete in the 100m while Timmy will compete in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. (Results)
In the first weekend of the All-Ireland Juvenile Track & Field Championships there was 3 Gold, 6 Silver, 1 Bronze as well as 2 4th place finishes. Sipke O'Shaughnessy fell at the last hurdles in the 80m when in a medal position. Laura McSweeney set a new Championship Best Performance in the U13 Shot Putt. (Full Results)
In the All-Ireland Junior Track & Field Championships Timmy Harrington was 5th in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump, Ronan Duggan was 6th in the 800m
Spar Mile Challenge was held in the Town Park on the 7th July. A good crowd turned out to enjoy the fun and festivities, the Bandon Brass and Reed Band performed and all competitors were marched to the start line by some members of the local pipe band. Everything went off well and while the numbers could have been better a great time was had by all.
County Junior and Masters, CIT 6th July
In the Junior events medal winners included Anthony Hennessy, Lynda O'Donovan. Shane Conway and Joan Healy. In the Masters events participants included Liz Coomey, Geraldine Lovell, Kate Coveney, Sharon Toner, Carmel McCarthy, Patrick McSweeney and George Bradfield. Full results to follow.

The number of Bandon A.C members in action was disappointingly low and once again most of the successes were in the field events. All-Ireland Pair's Championships, Mardyke, 24th June 2007
Fintan O'Shaughnessy and Promise Okafor won the U12 Long Jump and Edward Ahern and Colin Kingston won the U12 Shot Putt. Fintan and Promise also competed in the sprint and finished just outside the medals in 4th place. The Boys U12 relay team were 7th.
Munster T&F Championships (U15-U19) C.I.T 24th June 2007
Once again the club had most of its success in the field events in the first day of the Munster Championships for the U15 to U19 age group. Medal winners included; Tracey Bradfield (U15 Silver Discus, Silver Shot Putt), Joan Healy (U16 Gold 200m), Lynda O'Donovan (U18 Bronze High Jump), Patrick McSweeney (U15 Gold Shot Putt), Sipke O'Shaughnessy (U15 Gold Hurdles, Bronze Long Jump), Conor Pullin (U16 Gold Javelin), David Reynolds (U16 Silver Javelin), Timmy Harrington (U17 Gold Long Jump), Ivan O'Brien (U17 Silver Discus), Chris Nash (U18 Bronze 400m). The Munster Senior Track & Field Championships was held recently and Bandon A.C had a number of members in action. Liz Coomey was 2nd in the High Jump and she also competed in the Shot, Discus and Hammer but finished outside the medals in those events. There were also some juvenile athletes who moved up an age group to compete in these championships; Timmy Harrington was 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump. Ronan Duggan completed well in the 1,500m but finished outside the medals. The club had a number of members selected for the Munster team to compete in the Kit Kat Tailtean Irish Schools’ Interprovincial. Joan Healy was in action in the 100m and the 200m and she finished in 1st and 2nd place. Timmy Harrington finished 2nd in both of the Long Jump and the Triple Jump and Tracey Bradfield was 6th in the Discus
The first day of the Munster T&F Championships for the U10, U12 pairs events and the U13 and U14 Championships were held in blistering sunshine in Castleisland. With tough competition in most events medals were always going to be hard to win at this level and so it proved with the club winning just 1 individual medal and 1 relay medal on the first day. Laura McSweeney won Gold in the U13 Shot Putt and the boys U14 relay team were 2nd. There was also a number of other good performances, Ronan Sheehan was 4th in the Long Jump, Toni Chatterton was 5th in the High Jump, Fiona Duggan & Kerin Chatterton was 6th in the Shot Putt, Grainne Lucey & Mari Dineen was 6th in the Ball Throw.
The second day of the Munster's also saw temperatures more suited to swimming than athletics. Once again the club had more success in the field events, Toni Chatterton won the Long Jump, Lyn Bradfield was 2nd in the Shot Putt, Robert O'Sullivan was 5th in the Javelin and Laura McSweeney was 7th in the Javelin, Phil Healy was 6th in the Long Jump, Lyn Bradfield was 6th in the Discus, Mighty Okafor was 6th in the Discus, Daire Harrington was 7th in the Shot Putt. In the Pairs events Edward Aherne and Colin Kingston won the Shot Putt, Fintan O'Shaughnessy and Promise Okafor were paired in the Long Jump where they won Gold and in the sprint where they won Silver. Other good performances included Ronan Sheehan, Mighty Okafor, Great Okafor who were all sprint finalists. In the relays races the Boys U12 team were 3rd and the Boys U11 were 4th.
Cork City Marathon, 4th June 2007
A large number of club members were in action in the first Cork City Marathon for a number of years, there was some impressive results, Tom Laffan finished 15th, Joe O'Sullivan was 30th and John O'Sullivan was 48th. Its a fantastic achievement for the club to get 3 finishers in the top 50 of an event this size. A women#s relay team which included 4 members of the club finished 41st out of over 600 teams so well done to them also and well done to everyone who finished the race. (Results)

Munster Juvenile Combined Events & Munster Masters Championships, 27th May 2007
The club had 6 athletes in action in the Munster Combined Events. In the Girls U14 Toni Chatterton was 6th and Phil Healy 8th. In the Boys U15 Sipke O'Shaughnessy was 1st and Patrick McSweeney was 5th. In the Girls U18 Lynda O'Donovan was 2nd with Valerie Lynch 3rd.
The Munster Masters Championships was also on the same day and medal winners included Liz Coomey (1st Long Jump, 1st Discus, 1st Hammer, 1st Shot Putt), Colette Tuthil (2nd 100m, 2nd 200m, 2nd 800m, 2nd Discus), Carmel Crowley (1st 3,00m 2nd 1,500m), Anne Kelly-McCarthy (1st 100m, 1st 200m, 2nd Long Jump), Geraldine Lovell (3rd 100m, 3rd Javelin), Kate Coveney (2nd 200m, 3rd 800m, 2nd Shot Putt) and the team of Geraldine Lovell, Colette Tuthil, Anne Kelly-McCarthy and Carmel Crowley won the women's relay. Medal winners in the mens' events included Patrick McSweeney (2nd Shot Putt, 2nd Discus, 2nd 56lb Weight), Pat Mulcahy (1st 100m, 3rd Long Jump), Jerry Healy (2nd 100m, 3rd 200m), John O'Donovan (3rd 56lb Weight) while the team of John O'Donovan, Pat Mulcahy, Jerry Healy and Patrick McSweeney were 2nd in the men's relay.
County Juvenile Relay Championships, U10 & U12 Games 20th May 2007
The Cork County Inter-Club relays were held in the CIT Track on the 20th May and
the club had a number of teams in action. In the Girls 4*100m relays the U10's
were 2nd, U11's were 3rd and U12's were 2nd.
In the Boys 4*100m relays the U11's were 3rd, U12's were 2nd, U13's were 1st,
U14's were 2nd, U15's were 1st, U16's were 3rd, U18's were 2nd, U19's were 1st
and in the 4*400m relays the U19's were 1st and U18's were 2nd.
The Cork County Juvenile T&F Games for U10's and U12's was held on a pairs basis
and was also on in the CIT Track on May 20th and the club had a number of medal
winning performances. In the Boys events medal winners included; U12 80m 1st (Fintan
O'Shaughnessy, Promise Okafor), U12 Long Jump 1st(Fintan O'Shaughnessy, Promise
Okafor), U10 Long Jump 3rd (Matthew Draper, Niall McCarthy). In the Girls events
medal winners included, U12 600m 2nd (Aisling Everard, Sinead Caulfield), U12
Long Jump 2nd (Claire Sexton, Aoibheann Harte), U12 Shot 2nd (Fiona Duggan,
Kerin Chatterton), U10 60m 2nd (Grainne Lucey, Mari Dineen), U10 60m 3rd (Fiona
Everard, Kellie Scannell) and U10 Ball Throw 3rd (Grainne Lucey, Mari Dineen).
All those pairings plus a number of other top 5 performances have now qualified
for the Munster Championships in Castleisland on the 9/10 June. (Full Results)

In the County 'B' Championships Aoife Lucey and Seana Coveney paired up in the U13 Shot and 700m were they finished in 2nd place in both events.
Munster Schools, University of Limerick, 19th May 2007
The Munster Schools Track & Field Championships was held in University of Limerick recently and a number of Bandon A.C members were in action representing their schools. 7 club members representing 5 different schools have now qualified for the All-Ireland Schools Championships which will be held in Tullamore on the 2nd June; Tracey Bradfield (Bandon GS, Shot and Discus), Joan Healy (Col na Toirbhirte Bandon, 100m and 200m), Spike O'Shaughnessy (Hamilton High School, Long Jump and Hurdles), Patrick McSweeney (Hamilton High School, Shot Putt), Owen Walters (Bandon GS, Discus), Timmy Harrington (Kinsale CS, Long Jump and Triple Jump), Ronan Duggan (St. Brogan’s Bandon, 800m). County Juvenile Track & Field Championships, 13th May 2007
In terrible conditions at times which made life difficult for the athletes medals were a bit scarcer on the 2nd day of the County Juveniles with just 26 individual medals being won. Once again the club had most of its success in the throwing events with 11 medals being won in the Ball Throw, Shot Putt, Discus and Javelin. There was another clean sweep in the Boys U15, this time in the Javelin. There was double Gold's for a number of athletes today, Laura McSweeney (U13, Shot & Javelin), Mark Sugrue (U15, Javelin & High Jump) and Joan Healy (U16, 100m & 200m). South Munster Schools Track & Field Championships, 5th & 12 May 2007
A number of club members were in action for their schools recently in the first day of the South Munsters. Medal winners will now go forward to compete for their schools in the Munster Schools. 14 club members representing 5 different schools will be in action. Munster Junior T&F Championships, 7th May 2007
In the Munster Junior (U20) Championships on the May Bank Holiday Monday the club had a number of athletes in action. Ronan Duggan had a great win in the 800m with Anthony Hennessy placing 3rd in the same race. Timmy Harrington was 2nd in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump and the Junior Men's relay team were 2nd. Joan Healy placed 2nd in the 100m and the 200m. Valerie Lynch was 2nd in the High Jump and the Junior Ladies relay team were 2nd. (Full Results)

Club members had a large number of successes on the first day of the Counties with 37 individual medals won. The club had a lot of success in the throwing events with 18 medals won in Shot Putt, Discus, Javelin, Hammer, Ball Throw this included an impressive clean sweep of the medals in the Boys U15 Discus. In the County Junior (U20) Athletics Championships recently Bandon A.C had success in both the Boys and Girls relays teams while Joan Healy (200m) and Rachel Roche (Javelin) also won individual medals. In the County Masters, club members had a number of successes with medal winners including; Liz Coomey (Hammer, Long Jump, Javelin, 200m), Anne Kelly (Long Jump, 200m, 800m), Geraldine Lovell (Long Jump, Javelin, 200m), Collette Tuttle (200m, 800m, Javelin), Carmel McCarthy (800m, 3,000m) Kate Coveney (200m, Javelin) while the relay team of Liz, Kate, Carmel and Collette won the women's relay. At Leevale Open Sports recently the club had a number of members in action with some impressive performances and medal winners here including Matthew Draper, Aisling Everard, Lynn Bradfield, Toni Chatterton, Timmy Harrington, Shane Conway and Ronan Duggan.
West Cork Track & Field Championships, CIT 15th/22nd April 2007
With a large number of individual and relays successes over the two days Bandon A.C retained the trophy for the Best Club in West Cork.

All-Ireland Juvenile Indoor Championships, 14th April, Nenagh
The club had a number of successes in the 2nd weekend of the All-Ireland Juvenile Indoor Championships, Fintan O'Shaughnessy won the U12 High Jump, Laura McSweeney won the U13 Shot Putt, Sipke O'Shaughnessy won the U15 Long Jump, Joan Healy won the U16 200m, Timmy Harrington was 2nd in the U17 Long Jump and Shane Conway finished 4th in the U18 200m. Road Races
Tom Laffan finished in a very impressive 6th place in a time of 2:52:55 in the Connemara Marathon and Matthew Geedon fininshed in 34th in a time of 3:21:30. John O' Sullivan (36th in a time of 1:22:26) and Kevin Wilmot (51st in a time of 1:23:44) competed in the Omagh Half Marathon. In the UCC 10k Road Race recently Joe O'Sullivan finished in 12th place and was 2nd in the O45 category and Carmel Crowley was the winner of the women's section so the Bandon colours were certainly very visible on Irish roads recently
West Cork Road Race, 1st April 2007
The annual West Cork Road Races were held in glorious
sunshine in Dunmanway recently. With trophies for the first 3 finishers in every
race Bandon athletes had a number of successes. Michelle O'Donovan was 2nd in
the Girls U8 race. In the Girls U10 race Bandon had a clean sweep of the
trophies, Grainne Lucey was 1st, Mari Dineen was 2nd with Fiona Everard 3rd. In
the Boys U10 Matthew Drapper was 1st. In the Girls U12 Aisling Everard was 1st.
In the Girls U14 Seana Coveney was 3rd and Ciaran Everard was 3rd in the Boys
U14. Elizabeth Prout was 2nd in the Girls U16 race. Others who performed well
and won medals on the day included Ronan Lucey, Niall McCarthy, Travis Coomey,
Kate Toner, Lisa Lovell, Rachel McCarthy, Roisin Coveney, Brian Everard, Aoife
Lucey, Robert O'Sullivan, Oisin O'Tuama, Mark O'Sullivan and John Lucey. In the
senior and masters races, Ann Kelly-McCarthy, Kate Coveney, Siobhan Dineen and
Sharon Toner were all among the trophy winners.
Well done to Dohney's Athletic Club for once again hosting this very enjoyable

Bandon A.C Annual Awards Night, 31st March
The club's annual awards night was held in the Bandon G.A.A pavilion recently. Before the proceeding got underway there was an excellent slide show of photo's recalling the various achievements of club members in the previous 12 months. Chairman John O'Donovan was the MC for the night and he thanked all the athletes who competed for the club in the previous year as well as their parents, he also paid tribute to the coaches and officials who give their time to the club and thanked the G.A.A. for the use of the hall and the various club sponsors. Former International athlete Brendan Crowley was on hand to present the awards to the winners before the tables were turned on him and he was presented with the "Hall of Fame Award" as John recounted Brendan's achievements both on and off the athletics field. Award winners were Grainne Lucey (U9 Cross Country), Matthew Draper(U9 T&F), Promise Okafor(U10-U11 T&F), Aisling Everard (U10-U11 Cross Country), Laura McSweeney (U12-13 T&F), Ciaran Everard (U12-12 Cross Country), Sipke O'Shaughnessy (U14/15 Cross County), Joan Healy (U15-16 T&F), Rachel Roche (U17-19 T&F), Lynda O'Donovan(U17-19 Cross County), Ann Kelly (Masters Athlete), Liz Coomey (Overall T&F), Carmel McCarthy (Overall Cross County), Carmel Lucey (Club Person of the Year). After all the awards were given out the young and the not so young thoroughly enjoyed themselves dancing the rest of the night away. Overall it was once again a very successful night.

Club members had a number of successes over the first weekend of the Juvenile Indoor Championships, medals were won by: Fintan O'Shaughnessy (Gold U12 Long Jump), Lynn Bradfield (Gold U14 Shot Putt), Toni Chatterton (Silver U14 Long Jump), Patrick McSweeney (Gold U15 Shot Putt), Sipke O'Shaughnessy (Gold U15 Hurdles), Joan Healy (Gold U16 60m). Others who performed well but finished outside the medals were Clare Sexton, Great Okafor, Ronan Sheehan, Tracey Bradfield and Timmy Harrington. (Full results)
Ballycotton '10' 4th March
Joe O'Sullivan was the first Bandon athlete home in the prestigious Ballycotton Ten Mile Road Race, he finished in an impressive 79th place out of nearly 2000 finishers. Kevin Wilmot, Matthew Geden, Thomas Sheehan, Bernard O’Sullivan and Gillian Spillane were amongst other Bandon A.C. members who finished well.
'AAA' English Indoor Championships, Birmingham 24th/25th Feb
Joan Healy won a Bronze medal in the Girls U15 60m in the English 'AAA' National Indoor Championships on Sat and followed it with another Bronze in the 200m on the Sunday. Timmy Harrington who was competing in the Long Jump finished in 10th place. Well done to both Timmy and Joan, it’s a great achievement to even qualify to compete in the 'AAA' Championships.
Munster Juvenile Indoor Championships, Nenagh 24/25 Feb 2007
The Munster Juvenile U12-U13 Indoor Championships was held in Nenagh recently and the club had 3 medal winners. Claire Sexton won Bronze in the 60m sprint and Laura McSweeney won Gold in the U13 Shot Putt. Fintan O'Shaughnessy won Silver in the U12 High Jump, Fintan also won a trilling long jump competition where he set a new championships best with his last jump and he was also 4th in the 60m sprint. Others who competed well included Kerin Chatterton (5th U12 Shot Putt), Fiona Duggan (6th U12 Shot Putt), Promise Okafor (5th U12 60m), Aoibhean Harte, Caroline Murphy, Kate Toner, Sinead Mulcahy and Oisin O'Tuama.
The U10 and U11 Games were run on a pair's basis and in this competition there was some good performances from Sinead Caulfield, Lisa Lovell, Casey O'Sullivan and Sarah Burke.
County Road Race Championships, Millstreet 25th Feb.
Carmel Crowley was an impressive winner of the ladies race. Tom Laffan was 3rd in the Men's race. The Master's Men's team of Tom, Joe O'Sullivan, Matthew Geeden, Tim Lucey and Bernard O'Sullivan won Bronze in the Inter Club competition.
Scottish Juvenile Indoor Championships Kelvin Hall ,Glasgow Feb 17/18th
A group of 8 athletes travelled over to the Scottish Indoor Championships in Kelvin Hall, Glasgow at the weekend. All of the athletes performed brilliantly, enjoying the experience and in the process winning 4 medals with some other very impressive performances also.
Laura McSweeney was in action early on the Sat morning in the U13 Shot Putt and despite suffering from a heavy cold which saw her withdraw from the 200m she put in a good sequence of throws to take the Silver medal. Phil Healy despite suffering with a heel injury set a new Personal Best in the heats of the 60m's and qualified for the semi-finals, Phil also competed in the Long Jump where she finished in 7th place. In the Girls U15 60m Joan Healy easily won her heat and semi-final and while it was much closer in the final she won Gold and defended the title she had won last year. In the 200m Joan also repeated the result from last year as she won a Silver medal. Sipke O'Shaughnessy won Bronze in the 60m Hurdles and also finished in 7th in the Long Jump. Patrick McSweeney finished 6th in the Shot Putt. On the Sunday it was turn of the older age groups. In the U17 Boys Timmy Harrington was unlucky as he finished in 4th place in the Long Jump and in the Triple Jump. Ronan Duggan and Anthony Hennessy both had good run's the U20 800m but missed out on qualifying for the final.
AAI Masters Cross Country, Santry 11th Feb
Carmel Crowley finished 6th in the Masters women's race with Noleen Fitzpatrick finishing in 64th place. Carmel was part of the Cork team who won Gold in the Inter-County competition. Tom Laffan finished 60th in the Masters Men's race which had 170 finishers.
Munster Schools Cross Country Championship, Dungarvan 10th Feb.
Mark O'Sullivan finished 11th in the Junior Boys race and Ronan Duggan finished 18th in the Senior Boys race.

Munster Masters Cross Country Championships, Limerick 21st Jan 2007
Carmel Crowley finished in 4th place overall and was 2nd in the Over35 category. Other Bandon athletics in action included Noleen Fitzpatrick and Kate Coveney, all three were competing as part of a West Cork team which won the InterClub competition. Carmel Crowley finished 5th individual and was part of the Cork team who won Gold in the InterCounty competition.
Road Race: The Donough Coughlan Memorial '5' mile road race on New Years Eve went off very successfully with Alan O'Shea of Bantry A.C winning in a fast time of 24mins and 36 sec, Ravis Zakis of West Waterford A.C was 2nd with local athlete Sean Conroy of Leevale A.C who was home from college in Chicago finishing in 3rd place. The women's race was won by Laura McCreesh of Sale Harriers in a time of 28mins and 25 sec, Bandon A.C member Carmel McCarthy was 2nd with Catherine Keohane of Leevale 3rd.

Munster Juvenile Indoor Pentathlon, Munster Masters Indoor Championships, Nenagh 30th Dec 2006
The first competitions of the 2007 calendar got underway a couple of days before the year started! There was 3 juveniles in action in the pentathlon but despite some good performances they all finished outside the medals. In the Girls U14 Phil Healy finished in 5th place, while in the Boys U15 Mark Sugrue finished 5th with Patrick McSweeney 6th.
A large number of medals were won in the Masters Championships with medal winners including Liz Coomey, Ann McCarthy, Carmel Crowley, Kate Coveney, Patrick McSweeney, Liam Reilly and Gerry Healy while the ladies team also won the 4*200m relay. (Full Results)
